Message from the ASSH Chair - April 2014

This is a short update and message to flag three important upcoming dates. The first two undoubtedly relates to some of the colleagues you work with in the simulation world. May 5th is International Midwives Day and May 12th is International Nurses Day. There are often local events to celebrate and note the contribution both disciplines provide to the healthcare workforce. Even if there are events planned, I ask that you take a few moments out of your schedule to personally acknowledge and thank the midwives and nurses who you work with.

The third event is Simulation Week from 3rd to 7th May. Go online at to learn more about how simulation is used in varied ways across many organisations and communities.

In the coming weeks I will send a more detailed message updating you on what the ASSH Executive Committee have been working on which includes a RoadMap for the next 3 years. Modelled on the Simulation Australia Roadmap and framed within the themes of Unite, Grow and Create, a number of ideas and action points have been touted within the subthemes of ‘Big Ideas’ and ‘Business as Usual’. Supporting this framework is the creation of several Portfolios and Task Forces which the ASSH Executive Committee members will lead, but provide new opportunities for you to contribute, to help shape and direct the growth of our simulation community.
Till next time,

Michelle Kelly
