Establishment of a National Network of Simulation Learning Programs Project

Project Overview

Health Workforce Australia (HWA) has contracted the Australian Society for Simulation in Healthcare (ASSH) to establish a national network of Simulated Learning Environments (SLEs) for the purposes of promoting inter-professional collaboration and resource sharing within Australia’s health workforce.

The Simulated Learning Environments Program is one of the key programs that Health Workforce Australia is undertaking as a result of Clinical Training Reform work being implemented under the National Partnership Agreement on Hospital and Health Workforce Reform. The National Network of Simulation Learning Programs Project will be established under the SLE program. HWA seeks to achieve the following broad objectives:

  1. To obtain current and accurate contact details and information on SLE programs Australia-wide (SLE Programs) in order for an online directory of SLE Programs to be established in the future (Simulation in Health Directory); and
  2. To promote SLE collaborative activities to improve the ability of SLE providers to better interact on a national basis for the purposes of sharing resources and inter-professional collaboration.

Data Dictionary

A SLE data dictionary was developed for the whole project using terminology promulgated by various sources both locally and overseas. The data dictionary was endorsed by the Project Board and will be reviewed on a regular basis and your feedback is welcome. If you have any comments or additions to the data dictionary, please contact Simulation Australia on

You can download a copy of the Data Dictionary from the SimNet resources page:

Generic Positions Descriptions

To support the new Simulated Learning Environments program and assist newly established SLEs, HWA has provided funding to the Australian Society for Simulation in Healthcare (ASSH) to develop generic position descriptions.

The generic position description templates can be downloaded and modified to suit your organisation and purpose. Please note, they should be used as a guide only and modified to the purposes on your organisation. You will need to grade or classify the position according to the award for your State/jurisdiction. Each classification links with a salary range. Please refer to your Human Resources Department within your organisation for further assistance.

It is also recommended that an organisational chart be attached to each position description.

You can download a copy of the sample Positions Descriptions from the SimNet resources page:
