Foundations in Simulation

One-day (8hr) Workshop

Learn powerful concepts of fundamental simulation and how they apply to the Australasian workplace at this introductory workshop. This must attend workshop is perfect for simulation professionals anywhere in Australasia who seek knowledge of the context of simulation, better ways to utilise resources in their industry and learn practical tools and links to advance their simulation career.

Our Foundations in Simulation workshop serves as a vital component for Australasian professionals to go broader, deeper and further into exciting arenas unexplored.

The workshop focuses on contrasting modelling and simulation, determining the need for simulation, defining simulation requirements, predicting the life cycle of simulations, managing aspects of simulation acquisition, and planning to evaluate simulation performance. It introduces core terms and explores how they apply equally in a variety of different disciplinary settings.

This workshop is recommended for people who highly value enhancing their professional simulation capacity. It addresses specific content and will be shaped by participants' needs and learning goals.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Definitions and Acronyms such as "Modelling", "Simulation" and "LVC".
  • History of simulation.
  • Forms of simulation, why we use them and a range of applications.
  • Fundamental Concepts in Simulation including but not limited to fidelity, resolution, simulation and human behaviour, effective deployment, simulation standards and simulation specifications.
  • Assessing, choosing and integrating simulation into organisational processes of change management.
  • How to evaluate the use of simulation to achieve organisational goals – in relation to both skill acquisition and policy and planning activities.
  • Explain how simulation can contribute to skill acquisition and other learning activities in business and educational contexts.
  • Emotional/affective aspects of simulation.

On completion of this workshop:

Participants will have explored and discussed the underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes that can help them to align simulations to business objectives, considering the engineering and people elements of simulation and development projects.

We will provide you with:

Course Notes, a Certificate of Completion and refreshments during the day, including morning tea, afternoon tea and a light lunch.

You are encouraged to bring:

Current workplace examples for use in course exercises.
